Why Thornber?

Ask our tenants what we’re like as a landlord and they’ll probably say we’re not like any landlord they know. That’s because we think that the traditional tenant-landlord relationship should be consigned to the past. For us, partnership is the way forward: not just because it’s a nicer way of working, but because it makes perfect commercial sense for everyone. After all, when our tenants thrive, we do too.

Our spaces include offices, workshops, manufacturing plants, retail spaces, warehousing and artists’ studios. We can even modify a site, resize its rooms, or install any special facilities like bespoke plumbing and lighting.

We support tenants at every stage of their lifecycle too, from new start-ups to well-established businesses, and we can help them with advice, marketing and even a free listing right here on our own website. Last but not least, we’re conveniently based on one of our own sites, so we’re easy to reach and quick to respond if ever a tenant does need our help.

  • Enjoy minimal disruption to your day-to-day operations with weatherproof working 365 days of the year.

Meet the team

As a true family business, we’re owned and managed by a close-knit team. We’re not part of a parent group and we don’t have outside shareholders, so we’re free to run things in line with our own personal values and high standards of care.

The company was established in 1906 by Edgar Thornber, and originally bred poultry. Although no longer involved in farming, Edgar’s 3 granddaughters are now at the helm - Heather Rowntree, Valerie Thornber and Dina Ball along with the next generation, Heather’s sons Jason & Julian.

As the director of Cargo to Go, I highly recommend Thornber for their exceptional site maintenance and customer service. Their team’s responsiveness to any issues, from day-to-day maintenance to emergency situations, is outstanding. The well-maintained and gritted site during winter ensures uninterrupted access, crucial for our logistics business. We’re proud to be associated with Thornber.
